You’re Invited on an Elementary Field Trip to….
Fairlane Church of Christ’s Missions Learning Center
Wednesday, December 16
Van 1 – Leaving Cedar Lane at 5:15, Returning About 7:30
Van 2 – Leaving Cedar Lane at 6:16, Returning About 8:30
(Meet in the main lobby.)
Topic: Guatemala
The Experience:
You start by getting on a chicken bus which seats around 16 to 20 people in actual bus seats. As you ride the bus, the tour guide will tell you all about Guatemala, like where it is located on the map, the flag, how they live, and also about the Mayan people. When you get off the bus, you will go to the volcano and country side to learn more about the people. Next you go to a farm to see what they grow, and how they use it to live. This is followed by a trip to a grave yard to learn about the celebration called “The Day of the Dead.” You will go into a market place to see the things they make and the food they eat, and why chocolate is so important to them. Next is the jungle were you learn about the animals and how the Mayans were the first to invent the rubber ball and the first ball game. Also you will see one of the Mayan temples and gods. Lastly, you will learn why mission trips are made to this type of country, and how you do not have to be a Doctor or Dentist to help serve and teach people about the only true God.
Reservations:
If you want to attend, you must sign up prior to Wednesday by contacting Melissa Rigney at 393-3824, 247-5609 (cell) or rigneym@charter.net. Seating is limited! Booster seats must be provided for those who are required to ride in them.

6:30 – 7:30 – Veggie Tale Movie and Pumpkin Carving Story in Auditorium
We are making this event primarily an outside Trunk-or-Treat activity this year. We need people to bring bags of prewrapped candy and/or 2 lt. drinks. A drop off box will be in the main church lobby. We also need volunteers to hand out candy from your auto. Decorating is encouraged but optional, and we will provide candy so you will not need to purchase so much on your own. Volunteers are also needed to work games, greet visitors, handle parking, and monitor the bounce houses. If you can assist, please sign-up on the table in the lobby or see Melissa Rigney or Terri Fuller.

The congregation has several requests for furniture. One request is for one twin bed. Another request is for a bunk bed, a couch, and a recliner. If you can help with any of these requests talk to one of the benevolent deacons (Steve Baker, Tommy Hancock, Bill Baucum).
Cedar Lane will host 5th Quarter this Friday evening. There is a need for refreshments (chips, dip, cookies, fruit etc.) and monetary donations for pizza. If you can help or have questions see Teena Anders or Tracey Harden. There is also a need for chaperon’s for this activity between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. If you would like to chaperon see Gary Johnson.
There are several shut-in’s in our community who need someone to read to them. If this is something you think you could do, talk to Tommy Hancock.
Remember our Ladies Day event on Saturday the 26th. If you haven’t already registered please call the church office to do so at 455-4665.
Curtis, Deana, and Avery Brewer are preparing to move back to the USA after a year’s assignment with Nissan in Japan. They will be leaving in the next few days. Please pray for safe travel.

Please make plans to enjoy the children’s play, “A King IS Born” on Sunday evening December 7th at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Thirty-six children are participating and they have worked very hard learning scripture and songs to share with you.
Parents with children in the play should plan to drop their child off at the building at 3:30 p.m. on the 7th for a dress rehearsal and cast pizza party prior to the performance. If you would like to assist with this party, please contact Melissa Rigney or Terri Fuller. A cast photo will be taken just prior to the play, so you may want to bring your camera.
