There are at least 2 things you can expect to see at almost every Kinlichee home – dogs and kids. The kids in the subdivisions play freely from house to house, climbing fences, riding bicycles, and playing games. Finding kids playing is the key to inviting children to VBS. They see one of our vans pull up with bright colored words on the windows and are automatically interested. Most want to come to VBS and the parents generally want them to attend. After a couple days we know their names, where they live, and what they like to do. Their smiles, laughter, and energy brighten the compound the minute they arrive. It really doesn’t take long to make a heart-connection with the children. All of us have.
Our VBS started last night with a lot of excitement. We ran 4 vans through the community to pick up children and came back with 27 kids. When the kids got off the buses they were greeted by our youth group blowing bubbles and doing everything in their power to make them feel welcomed. Most of the kids joined the fun very easily but there were a few that started out very shy. The children were well behaved and very interested in our lessons.
I trust that everyone is well and keeping the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Dale and I are trying to do that. It is what I tell new people when they want to know about our church and faith; “We are people who are trying to live what we teach and preach”. This is new and strange to many but they are interested to know people who strive to do this!
On the 28th of June we will have a guest speaker. Chet McDoniel is a disabled speaker from the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area with a message of hope, happiness and a full life. Chet was born with no arms. Chet has inspired thousands to get past the barriers in their lives, and to have a positive attitude no matter what comes your way. From his unique perspective, Chet offers insight on what it takes to deal with challenges in life whether they are big or small. Chet’s father, Jim McDoniel, will accompany him.
We just finished a great lunch of grilled hamburgers, hotdogs, baked beans, chips and cookies. Food tastes better after hard work and by all accounts lunch was delicious. Gary gave us our assignments this morning and we’ve worked hard to get things done. This morning (Monday) we’ve dug a 100 ft – 12 in deep trench from the trailer to the Hogan, built a new book shelf for the computer room, worked on replacing the wood stove, ran the weed eater, and put new shingles down on the Hogan. We have accomplished a lot in a short amount of time because we all worked together.
Our final VBS skit was presented last evening. Joshua and the 12 tribes of Israel heard and followed the instructions from God delivered to Joshua through an angel. Their journey began in our lobby where they marched into Jericho (auditorium).Joshua and Priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant led the children around the walls of Jericho. After a loud shout to the Lord the mighty walls of Jericho tumbled down. Only Rahab and her family were saved. I believe the 166 kids who marched around Jericho will remember knocking down the walls of Jericho in our auditorium. I know the tribal leaders and the numerous adults who helped ensure the safety of the kids will remember. Everyone did a great job.A special thank you to all our tribal leaders and to Linda Clark for headingthat area up.We realize that we had the children moving around more during the skits this year and, while we believe that this made the skits even more enjoyable and memorable for the kids, we realize that it made it more difficult for the tribal leaders to do their jobs.We appreciate your hard work, patience, and love for the children
VBS is officially underway. The story of Moses, Joshua, and the children of Israel is being told through our skits, crafts, food, and activities. Last night Moses sent the 12 spies to Jericho to spy out the land before they entered into the Promised Land. Only 2 spies came back with a Godly report – Joshua and Caleb. Joshua’s reports showed that he “Trusted God” to help them capture the land that God had promised. The skit was well done with Steve Bills as Moses and Gary Land as Joshua.
