Van 2 – Leaving Cedar Lane at 6:16, Returning About 8:30
(Meet in the main lobby.)

Topic:  Guatemala

The Experience:
You start by getting on a chicken bus which seats around 16 to 20 people in actual bus seats. As you ride the bus, the tour guide will tell you all about Guatemala, like where it is located on the map, the flag, how they live, and also about the Mayan people.  When you get off the bus, you will go to the volcano and country side to learn more about the people.  Next you go to a farm to see what they grow, and how they use it to live.  This is followed by a trip to a grave yard to learn about the celebration called “The Day of the Dead.”  You will go into a market place to see the things they make and the food they eat, and why chocolate is so important to them.  Next is the jungle were you learn about the animals and how the Mayans were the first to invent the rubber ball and the first ball game.  Also you will see one of the Mayan temples and gods.  Lastly, you will learn why mission trips are made to this type of country, and how you do not have to be a Doctor or Dentist to help serve and teach people about the only true God.

Reservations:
If you want to attend, you must sign up prior to Wednesday by contacting Melissa Rigney at 393-3824, 247-5609 (cell) or rigneym@charter.net.   Seating is limited!  Booster seats must be provided for those who are required to ride in them.

Message from Shepherds House

12/22/2009
3:00 pm

Dear Friends,
We are asking some of the Church families in our area to help us with
a “Christmas Project” for our residents.  We are so thankful for the various
churches & organizations who help us in many ways throughout the year.
Someone came up with the idea of filling “shoeboxes” with small items for a man
or a woman, wrapping the box in Christmas paper and labeling it for a man or a
woman.  The following is a list of suggested items:

For men  -  pair of warm socks            For women  -  pair of warm socks
ball cap                                    gloves
key chain                                small make-up bag
gloves                                      jewelry
deck of cards                          slippers
“travel size” toiletries           small toiletries
candy or nuts                         candy or nuts
small flashlight                       lipstick  -  nail polish
ear muffs                                note cards

You may think of other appropriate items to include.  Please wrap the shoebox
with Christmas paper and label Man  or  Woman.  I will be glad to pick these gifts
up when you have them ready.  Please call me at 455-5670  or  841-1953.  We need to
have all the Shoeboxes no later than Tuesday 22 Dec. please.
Also please accept my apology for not getting this information to you on Friday
as I intended.  Thank you so much for your willingness to share with us at this
important time of year.

Sincerely,

The Shepherds House
