Dear Ones, April 27, 2009
I have not forgotten you nor have I forgotten how to write. I have been very busy since my return getting through jet lag and then 100 boxes that came in from the States. Also, I have been visiting people that we help and taking people to see doctors. Every time I sit down to write the thought comes to mind from the Bible about blowing you own horn. I believe this disturbs Dale even more than it does me. He is so set on giving God the glory and not bragging he may go overboard. It is not the easiest thing I have to do but I have made peace with that as I know that you that support us want to know about us and the work here. We are both well and enjoying the Spring days that come. It has been really cool here lately just like it was there before I left but we do have some really nice days or parts of days. We still have some heat so that explains it better than my words.
I enjoyed my trip to the USA although I drove over 4,000 miles, giving my report and shopping a great deal for “MY KIDS”. Some of you I told this to but not to my whole mailing list, mainly to you that extended hospitality and helped me in special ways. Some of you helped me pack as I shopped at almost every place I went as it was the time for sales. I was buying for June 1st and already for Christmas. I believe that God blesses me in many ways and in particular in this task of buying, packing and driving. I give Him all the praise and thanksgiving for keeping me safe. I thank all of you that I got to see and visit with some. It is always a privilege to meet with people who love the Lord and are not too busy to take in a rather persistent missionary!!!! Thank You and thank you again.
Dale is busy trying to get the men to lead and serve more. Getting them to understand that they need to be responsible is another thing he is trying to teach them. He has been busy for several days now getting his visa renewed. It has been a royal hassle but has to be done. Some cities give missionaries a visa for 3 to 5 years but here in Bucharest this has never happened and we have been here almost 19 years. Red tape here is a challenge to one’s patience and endurance. It will be my turn in the next few days to get mine renewed.
One of our members, Gabi Radulescu, needs a rather serious surgery as soon as she takes off some more weight. It is a hernia in the stomach , the belly button. The doctors that we saw all told her that this a very serious surgery and any extra weight complicates things. Gabi is really trying to lose and is doing well. Pray for her strength and endurance during this time and especially that God take care of her during the surgery. I trust that you that have not met Gabi will remember her taking in 6 girls and raising them. She and Costin have done a good work but it has been hard at times. Three girls are still in their home, plus, Gabi’s mother and Costin’s dad.
Another member and friend, Margareta, who helps me so much also needs surgery on a tumor that is growing on the inside of her upper leg. We are trying to get in to see Dr. Enescu as Margareta wants his opinion and advice. He has just been appointed director of the whole hospital where the Burn Unit is located, so he is real busy. I know others that are good at their work but she prefers first to see Dan although he will not do the surgery and then go to a surgeon that he recommends. I understand this!!
Eugen Ana gave one of the lessons Sunday on Transformation of Our Lives and Dale gave one on Gratitude. Both were very good and appreciated by the members. There was a good attendance.
Dale says that the economic crisis is affecting here like there. Many are feeling it in the church, the work situation and in prices that keep going up. The dollar is a bit better than when we left in December but only time will tell how that will fare. Romanians who left to work in other European countries are having to return home because of lack of jobs. For instance in Spain, there is a 17% unemployment , they don’t need outside help to cultivate their crops. Their own people need the jobs. The same for England many are having to leave as there is no work. We know that God is in control and that we need to trust in Him.
The past Saturday night we had a light earthquake in Romania. The strongest point was up north from us which was 5.3 on the Richter scale and 4 here in Bucharest. I was in the office at my computer and definitely felt the floor move. We are on the second floor. Dale was at a meeting at church for the men. He did not feel it. A lot of people were in the street but I did not go down as it did not happen again. The last bad earthquake here was in 1977 and there were a lot of deaths, 1600 to be exact and much damage to property. Again we walk by faith and know that God is in control.
Dale and I thank each one of you for your kind thoughts, prayers for us, encouragement, for your cards on our Birthdays and Wedding Anniversary and your emails. We are grateful for your financial support and praise God that you have not grown weary in this work in Bucharest. We pray for you and thank God for you. It is our privilege and honor to represent you in this place. God bless each.
